What is Baking?

Baking is a method of setting your concealer by layering a thick layer of setting powder on top, and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes. You especially want to do this in areas that normally crease like the under eye area. The reason you do this is so the natural heat from your body helps really set your concealer and give you a fabulous airbrushed look. After the time is up take any fluffy brush and flick the excess powder off.

What I personally use for this, is a dry Beauty Blender, and Ben Nye Translucent Setting Powder. I know normally any time you use a Beauty Blender it is damp, but for this to really pack the powder on make sure it’s dry. This technique was actually made popular by drag queens, and anyone who knows me knows how much inspiration I take from drag makeup. They truly are the queens of makeup the way they transform themselves. My favorite show of course is RuPauls Drag Race. In fact, I learned the baking method from RDR Season 3 Winner, and makeup artist on America’s Next Top Model, Sutan Amrull aka RajaGemini. I sat in on a workshop he taught at The Chicago Makeup Show. He actually did a really cool trick with this that I use to this day. If I am working with an eye shadow pigments that have heavy fall out I bake and then brush them all off when I’m done, without disturbing my done up face underneath.
