NYX Liquid Suede Creme Lipstick Review and Swatches
August 18, 2015
UPDATE: Pictures of me now wearing all the liquid lipsticks below.
Liquid Lipticks have become the biggest thing since sliced bread. They have blown up over the last few years and has companies rushing to release their own line. NYX Cosmetics finally released their own line after weeks of mystery shrouded around the release date. There are 12 colors to this line and they retail for $7 each. This is the picture of me wearing the NYX Liquid Suede in Sandstorm. This color transforms in different lighting from this color to very brown.
Unless you subscribed to NYX Cosmetics newsletter, you were in the dark on the release date. So when they finally did launch, everyone went crazy like it was Black Friday. I was fortunate enough for my loving boyfriend to purchase 10 of the 12 shades of the collection for me, before they sold out on the first day.
The colors I wasn't interested in were Orange County and Kitten Heels. The reason for this being is I have a matte orange lipstick and a LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in that bright orange color, and I feel with my skin tone, it is not flattering on me at all. As for the Kitten Heels, which is one of the crowd favorites, I felt too devouted to my Mac Ruby Woo Matte Lipstick to stray for an extremely similar color. I knew if I wanted to do that look, I would forever pick my Ruby Woo over all. Without further ado, I present to you my collection of the NYX Liquid Suede Lipsticks.
From left to right the colors are as follows: Pink Lust, Sway, Vintage, Stone Fox, Life's A Beach, Sandstorm, Amethyst, Soft Spoken, Cherry Skies, and Tea and Cookies.
Review of these bad boys:
The marketing of these products was pretty good, there was a lot of hype over NYX coming out with a liquid lippie that is different than their Soft Matte Lip Cream product. This product is described on the website as "Our Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick glides on and sets into a striking matte finish. Velvety soft and waterproof, this long-lasting lippie creates a positively polished look with every swipe." The colors of this collection have a wide range; They vary from a pastel purple, to a hot pink, to a neon coral, to a light brown, to a blue gray tone. Stone Fox, the blue gray color, looks amazing on and helps make teeth look whiter so win-win. They are very bright and pigmented, with a nice color pay off, so you only need one coat. The application of this product could be easier, it certainly does not just "glide" on gracefully. It is a somewhat hard doe foot applicator, but an awkwardly long length. Luckily, I've had a lot of practice applying liquid lipsticks. Here is a picture of lip swatches NYX posted on their instagram the day of the launch.
The formula themselves is not that great in my opinion. These claim to dry "a striking matte finish." I think it is more of a semi-matte finish. Another problem I have with the formula is it transfers easily. If you are eating or drinking, this lipstick will get everywhere. You can feel the texture of it on your lips at all times. It is hard to forget you are wearing it as you feel the velvety texture. Every color has a different drying time from 30 seconds to about 5 minutes. Their Soft Matte Lip Cream doesn't transfer nearly as much as the Liquid Suede.
Overall, I do like this product. It is not the same high quality as the Jeffree Star or Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks but it is only $7 instead of $20. It has a great color selection, color pay off, and very affordable.
