You are stripping natural oils causing your scalp to overproduce. By shampooing your hair everyday, you are stripping the natural oils produced by your scalp, causing them to overproduce to try and make up for what you keep stripping. So basically by trying to be less greasy looking you actually have been making yourself more greasy.
You are making your ends brittle and weak. When you shampoo your hair you should only be washing by your scalp, NOT YOUR ENDS. The run off shampoo from rinsing cleanses your ends just fine. If you shampoo your ends, you will dry them out because the natural oils from your scalp are not reaching your ends. This will cause them to get brittle and break over time.
You may be making this mistake in the shower that is leaving your clean hair dirty looking. When you condition your hair you should only be conditioning your midshaft-ends. Do not slap conditioner on your roots. The conditioner will cause your roots to look greasy even though you just washed them. Instead pull all your hair back into a low ponytail. Hold with your hand where you would typically tie it. From there down to your ends is where you apply your conditioners/treatments.
You trained your hair into a bad habit. Yes you can train your hair like it’s a dog. So maybe it won’t fetch for you, but you can train it to last longer between washes and to produce less oil over time. Sounds neat right? It takes anywhere from 6 months to a year for your scalp/hair to fully be “trained.” I will be writing an article about how I trained my own hair, how long it took me to do it, and some tips and tricks to make it easier for you to do. Learn from my mistakes guys.
The health of my hair overall has improved since I stopped being a “chronic over shampooer” yes that is an actual term one of my instructors in beauty school told me I was. DON'T BE A CHRONIC OVER SHAMPOOER!
I now use dry shampoo between washes and it really gives my flat hair some volume. I also do a hair mask/deep conditioner/treatment on my hair like 2x a week. I shampoo my hair anywhere from 2-3 times a week. This means whenever I do wash my hair, I almost always do a deep conditioning mask or treatment, really boosting the health of my hair with each shower. So what I have done is essentially gone from making my hair worse with every shower to getting it better. Instead of having it get greasy faster and my ends dryer, I now can go 3 days between shampooing, have it be less greasy looking, and my ends are more moisturized.
