I am not typically one for DIY home beauty treatments as many times they are either not effective or can even border on dangerous. I get especially irked when it comes to hair because I went to an elite school for over 1200 hours, and spent over $20,000 on tuition, to become a licensed professional and expert in the beauty industry. Home hair treatments never compare to a professional in salon treatment as there are years of trial and error from some of the biggest companies in the hair world to perfect the professional in salon treatments. Depending on the treatment, they can vary from adding shine, eliminating frizz, getting softer more manageable hair, ect. One Home Hair Hack I stand behind 100% is the Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse.
The acidity level in an ACV Hair Rinse is the right pH level to seal your hair shafts cuticle. So the ACV Hair Rinse seals your cuticle which helps keep moisture in. Closed cuticles look shinier and have less tangles and frizz.
Think of your hair’s cuticle like shingles on a roof. When your cuticle is open it is like the shingles on the roof are lifted and
water is leaking through and it’s just all this big mess. When your cuticle is open it is like tiny little velcro hooks sticking to other hooks on hair strands and create a frizzy look. Open cuticle also absorbs light instead of reflecting it resulting in your hair looking lackluster and dull.
Cuts through the product buildup and gunky residue in your hair. Essentially acts as a clarifying treatment for your hair.
Stimulates the scalp. Stimulated scalp actions promote hair growth.
Helps alleviate dry/itchy scalps and eliminates dandruff.
Most dry, itchy, and dandruff-y scalps are because of an overproduction of fungus, bacteria, and yeast.
The apple cider vinegar has antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Spray Bottle or Empty Shampoo Bottle
¼ cup - 1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 cups of water
Use more apple cider vinegar for oily hair and less for dry hair.
There are 2 options to do this that achieve the same results it’s just a matter of preference.
Spray hair with ACV rinse after shampooing hair in shower
Massage the rinse into scalp and make sure to saturate the ends really well
Leave rinse on hair for a few minutes
Rinse out with water
Condition hair as usual
*Optional to put rinse in empty shampoo bottle to apply the rinse in the shower
Option 2 (the one I do)
Spray clean and towel dried hair after shower with rinse
Massage into hair and scalp
Towel dry after a few minutes
DO NOT RINSE
Hair will smell strongly of vinegar when still wet
Vinegar smell will disappear completely when hair is dry
Acts as a detangler and is great for long hair
Hair is clarified
No dry itchy scalp
Doing this everyday can be drying to your hair
Hair will smell strongly of vinegar when wet but smell is gone when hair dries
And lastly if your bathroom is like mine
DO NOT do this treatment in a marble shower/near marble counters and floors
Vinegar destroys and dissolves marble
