If you are reading this article, that means you are at least somewhat interested in the anti aging preventative steps you should be taking at this point in your life. Like you've seen in my How To Prevent 90% Of Wrinkles article, almost all of the physical signs of aging are the result of sun damage. Most of the damage is done by your adolescence (so if you have a kid lather them in sun care.) The reason you should start somewhat young for anti aging is because it is easier to prevent the signs of aging than to try and reverse it. Ever notice how your favorite celebrities never seem to age? Small procedures done at regular intervals are the way to go here to never have it be obvious that you've ever had any work done.
In your early 20's you may already start to see very small changes in your skins elasticity and texture as a result of either stress or your environmental factors. Make sure to protect your skin from further photoaging by using your sunscreen. This is also the time to start getting the occasional chemical peel to help resurface and to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Also try not to party too hard in college as alcohol, smoking, and drugs all contribute to advanced signs of aging.
In your mid to late twenties, the fine micro lines from early 20s will have deepened, (most likely from life kicking your butt,) and will now be actual fine lines or wrinkles. You should keep continuing with regular chemical peels. Now is also the crucial time to start with Botox injections. This is when you will start to see yourself already aging. Try and maintain a healthy lifestyle, use your sun protection, and use good skin care products.
If you took great care of your skin or just have great genes, you might get to skip back to the late 20's section. Everyone ages at different rates but between the ages of 30-40 is when you need to kick it into high gear to prevent so you won't need to try and reverse it later. All the botched plastic surgery jobs are when they try to do too much too late. One major thing is to make sure you are moisturizing and protecting your skin with sun care. Your skin will be losing its elasticity. Find face products that can help with that. Keep up with the Botox maintenance. Now will also be the time to start with facial fillers in the deeper lines forming, such as your smile lines.
Other options are also laser resurfacing treatments to get the results you desire. These could help deeper wrinkles, scars, and skin discoloration like age spots, sun spots, and liver spots. Also you get some fat grafts, cheek fillers, or tear trough fillers.
Deep facial lines and skin folds from loss of facial volume from fat loss will start to show. Now is the time your age will really show. I mentioned before that all Doctors and professionals agree that preventing serious aging instead of reversing is best. Now I don't mean major preventative surgery. By that I mean if there is nothing to correct, wait until the early signs of aging do appear and then the Surgeon will have a guide to follow, and correct to look most natural. The average age of a face lift patient is 50 years old, not 60-70. Younger patients with less severe aging get more complete improvement and correction following a mini face lift, endoscopic forehead and mid face lift, or deep plane face lifts.
The general consensus from plastic surgeons is a mini SMAS plication every 5 years. So face lifts or volume enhancement by fillers or fat help prevent permanent damage. Face lifts also tighten jowls and removes fat in neck above and below the platysma muscles as an added bonus. Sometimes you only need an upper or lower eyelid lift. Get a neck lift when the banding starts.
Older patients with advanced signs of aging and poor skin elasticity usually require procedures like a laser/chemical peel/microdermabrasion in addition to the face lift for desired effects. Most patients agree that they just want to maintain a rested and refreshed look throughout life. They don't want to look like a different person, they just want to "look how they feel."
