Crash Course in K-Beauty

K-Beauty or Korean Beauty has been a hot new trend in the makeup and skincare industry for some time now. These South Korean exports tout major powerful results in extremely cutesy packaging. The technology is about 10 years ahead of typical US skincare products. They have a unique blend of harnessing both the power of nature and technology together. Some major benefits are they contain fewer harsh chemicals and most of the makeup also has skincare in it to keep working around the clock. The main theme around it is to focus on skincare so you don't need a lot of heavy makeup to hide a glowing youthful complexion.
Dewy flawless skin is the main result these products try and deliver. A big focus is on lightweight products that help accentuate your youth or help you stay looking youthful. The Koreans are known for having some of the best complexions in the entire world thanks to these products and the importance they place around skincare in their lives. Some of these regimens can be 10 steps long!

A Typical Regimen Can Look Like:
1. Oil Cleanser/Makeup Remover
2. Water Cleanser
3. Exfoliator
4. Toner
5. Essence/Serum/Ampule
6. Sheet Mask
7. Moisturizer
9. Eye Cream
8. SPF
9. Makeup Application
Night:
10. Sleeping Mask/Cream

Most of them would start with double cleansing, or washing your face twice but with two separate products, for optimal results. First you would use an oil based cleanser to help breakdown any leftover makeup on your face and remove the gunk from the day. Next you would use a water based cleanser to help lock in some moisture. A few times a week you will also exfoliate to slough off dead skin cells.

After washing your face you apply your toner. Many of the K-Beauty toners have a multitude of benefits in addition to restoring your pH balance and prepping skin for products. The toners can also be called Skin Softeners.
Next you will apply your Essence or Ampule. Many argue this is the most important step in your regimen. The essence is essentially similar to a serum but more concentrated. There is less filler ingredients and more pure ones. Many essences are skin brighteners/whiteners. An ampule is an even more concentrated product than the essence products. Because of this, they are typically much more expensive.

Next you would apply a sheet mask. Sheet masks are super trendy right now because they're quick, have immediate results, and are fun to take selfies in. You would apply either a cotton based or gel based mask to your entire face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Once you remove it tap the remaining product into your skin. I also will keep the extra serum that is in the bottom of the bag and use it as my serum that night or even the next morning. Sheet mask have a multitude of uses including intense hydration, skin soothing, pore shrinking, skin firming, anti aging, anti redness, and acne fighting.

Always apply a moisturizer or face lotion. Keeping your skin hydrated prevents it from premature fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps form a protective barrier between your skin and pollutants. Korean Beauty/Skincare is big on the young, fresh, and dewy look. There is a moisturizer for every skin type. I have oily skin and use a light water gel based product that soaks right in, isn't too heavy on my skin, and helps control my sebum and oils all day. Tap on an eye cream or serum with your ring finger as well. The skin is much more fragile here so the minimum amount of pressure should be used.

Never forget your SPF or sun protection. You can read in my article all about photo-aging and How To Prevent 90% Of Wrinkles. After this step you can apply your makeup. If you are doing the steps at night instead of morning, instead of applying SPF pop on a sleeping mask/pack a few nights a week and wash off the remaining product in the morning.
They have some interesting ingredients but they're effective so I am so down for them and those include:

Donkey Milk- good for sensitive skin 5x more vitamin C than cows milk
Bee Venom- also known as "faux-tox" it is anti inflammatory and helps relax facial muscles
Snail Secretion Mucus- boost cell regeneration
Dragons Blood- plumping ingredient from a tree sap acts as wrinkle filler
Pig Collagen- firming and tightening
Egg Whites- help tighten large pores and prevent wrinkles
Carbonated Products- Foam up after application to help deep clean pores
Water Based Products- Offer intense hydration and are very lightweight and fast absorbing
These are just some of my products and K-Beauty tips. When it comes to the makeup it typically consist of lightweight tints and cushion bb creams. Although the focus of most of the skincare is early anti aging, it works miracles if you have acne prone skin and keeping it clear. My skin is also quite sensitive and many of these are specially formulated to be as gentle as possible. Without as many harsh chemical ingredients in these products my skin has been beautiful and glowing! My products featured in this article will be listed below with some links:
